New York City is full of excitement and energy, and stepping into the Big Apple for the first time can feel invigorating and intimidating at the same time.

Whether you’re marveling at the towering skyscrapers, savoring a slice of world-famous pizza, or soaking in the eclectic rhythm of its neighborhoods, there’s something for everyone in NYC. To help you navigate and make the most of your first visit, I have curated a list of 21 must-do activities that capture the essence of the iconic New York City.

This list will focus on Manhattan although New York City is actually made up of 5 boroughs; Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island.

1. Explore Central Park: Take a stroll, rent a bike, or enjoy a picnic in this expansive green in the heart of Manhattan.

2. Tour The MET (Metropolitan Museum of Art): One of the largest and most prestigious art museums in the world, with an extensive collection.

3. Visit the American Museum of Natural History: Explore exhibits ranging from dinosaur fossils to space exploration.

4. Walk along Fifth Avenue: Do some window shopping at luxury stores like Tiffany & Co., Bergdorf Goodman, and Saks Fifth Avenue.

5. Discover the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA): See famous works by artists like Van Gogh, Picasso, and Warhol.

6. Visit St. Patrick’s Cathedral: Stop in to see the beautiful Neo-Gothic-style cathedral, the largest Roman Catholic Cathedral in the United States.

7. Rockefeller Center: Rockefeller Center is where you'll find Radio City Music Hall, NBC Studios, the Top of the Rock observation deck, and in the winter, the famous ice skating rink and Christmas tree. It is also where the iconic photograph Lunch atop a Skyscraper was taken in 1932.

8. See a Broadway Show: Catch a live theater performance in the Theater District. Booking tickets in advance is a good idea!

9. Visit Times Square: Experience the neon lights, bustling crowds, and iconic billboards of this famous intersection.

10. See Grand Central Terminal: Admire the stunning architecture and celestial dome of this historic train station.
